HAIRLOSS AT THE BACK AND SIDES

Name: Amanda
Question:

Dear doctor,

I'm 19 years old, I've noticed large amounts of hair loss from the beginning of 2008. I have had blood tests done which show that my free testosterone levels are higher than normal for a female. Because i aslo have pcos, i have been seeing an endrocronologist who put me on the pill and spiroaldactone, however neither of these treatments helped wit my hair loss.Although i have diffuse thinning from all over my head, my hair loss is concentrated to the top and back of my heads (scalp is visible more in these areas)
i live a healthy lifestyle, excercise on a regular basis, drink 3 cups of green tea a day and take 9 saw palmetto supplements a day. Although there has been a slight decrease in the amount of hair lost, i still notice large amounts of hair being lost in the shower, on the comb and loose hair.
i have read tht revivogen can cause an inital increase in shedding, why is this so if the product is a dht blocker. My understanding is tht if revivogen is a dht blocker then it blocks dht so that the hair can continue growing but why is it that hair shedding may increase?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Amanda,
Since you have PCOS, you need to reduce the effect of DHT on your hair follicle to reduce your hair loss. Revivogen will reduce the androgens particularly DHT from reducing the thickness of your hair follicle. Initially you may have weak baby hairs shed to be replaced by thicker terminal hairs. Please tell us what dose of Aldactone are you on.
