Question:
hi ! is it safe to take saw palmetto orally to block dht ? am a women so does this affect my firtility? or having babies? if its not how can i get saw palmetto oraaly? is there is a product for it in the pharmacy?
Hi Mona, oral tablets do not provide the maximum benefit available unless you take lots of them. While natural supplements may not harm you, they do not provide a major benefit simply because when you take something orally, it goes through your entire system and even natural supplements will have an adverse affect if you take the amount required to reach your hair follicle. DHT in the scalp makes the hair fall, but DHT in the body helps to maintain hair. The ingredients of an oral tablet do not have the ability to isolate themselves and reach only the hair follicle. So you will be blocking DHT throughout your entire body instead of just the scalp where it is needed. The body absorbs the nutrients so the intended area does not receive the maximum potency. The most effective method is a topical method. You would need a handful of oral tablets to match the amount in a topical formula because the potency levels are so low in addition to being absorbed by the body. So in essence while small doses of natural supplements orally can't hurt, they don't help a lot either. I wouldn't recommend using oral tablet as your only means of defense/treatment again DHT.
