Name: Michael
Question:
I am 29 and over the last few months I have noticed my hair thinning and falling out. I went to a dermotologist and he prescribed Propecia. I have been taking it for a little over three months. However, during this time, my hair seems to have been falling out faster possibly. I was wondering if propecia has been known to cause additional hairloss. I have read numerous posts about this possibility from previous propecia customers, but wanted to find out from a trusted doctor. Since on it, I notice more hairloss about a 1/4- 1/2 inch above my front hair. So can propecia cause further hair loss? Next, I live on Long Island in NY and I would like to know if you could recommend any doctors that specialize in hair loss. It is difficult to find someone because of the internet. Also, I would like to know where I can find a reputable microscopic hair analysis to be done? I know i requested a lot of information, and I hope you can help. PS I will be trying Revivogen very soon Michael
Michael,
You are experiencing the shedding phase which is a normal phenomenon that occurs with all hair loss products that actually work. The hair follicle goes throw cycles of growth, rest, and shedding. Once the hair follicle has reached the end of its growth cycle it enters the resting phase were the hair production is stopped and the hair is detached from the bulb. At this point the hair will fall within a few months regardless and the shedding occurs when the hair follicle goes into the growth cycle and tries to grow a new hair. Depending on how many hairs you have in the resting phase you will experience various amounts of shedding sometimes. The other hair follicles which are still in the growth phase will continue growing as they will be protected by the formula. So the shedding only involves the hairs that were going to fall within the next three months and these hairs will grow back. This is not a problem as it may seem it is and it is normal and a good sign that your hair follicles are going into the growth phase again. If you stop the use of Revivogen altogether the hairs that are shed will grow back but the may become thinner and finer under the destructive effects of DHT (unless you use another Anti-DHT product like Revivogen)
From your history it is obvious that you have MBP which is also confirmed by your doctor. As such there is no need for you to see another doctor as your diagnosis and treatment will be the same. As for microscopic hair analysis there is nothing to be learned from that and it is completely worthless. It is mainly used to scare off unknowing patients into paying for useless and expensive treatments. Without seeing any part of your hair or scalp under any microscope I can tell you that your diagnosis is MBP and your treatment is stopping DHT by Propecia, Dutastride or Revivogen. You can also use the Lasercomb or Rogaine (Minoxidil 5% ) as a secondary treatment (never primary) and should use an anti-dandruff shampoo (Revivogen, Head and Shoulders, Selsun Blue, or Nizoral). Finally supplements won't help unless you take 30 pills a day. Good Luck.
