The Difference Between Nioxin and Revivogen

The Difference Between Nioxin and Revivogen

We often get questions from customers asking about Nioxin.

What Nioxin Hair System Kit should I use?

Can I use Nioxin with Revivogen MD?

What’s the difference between Nioxin’s Scalp Therapy and Revivogen MD Scalp Therapy?

There are 6 Nioxin Cleansers, which one should I use?

Nioxin is a hair care line made popular by hair stylists in the 80s. Today it is the best-selling hair care brand for thinning hair, often sold in salons. People see results almost immediately, which explains Nioxin’s success.

Some consumers might not understand that most Nioxin products are not a hair loss treatment and don’t claim to treat hair loss caused by Male/Female Pattern Baldness, which is the cause of 90% or more of hair loss cases. Nioxin works because it does what it claims to do: gives people thicker looking hair and healthier hair in 30 days.

Nioxin’s many products work in several ways. Some Nioxin products remove subum from the scalp. Some Nioxin products increase blood flow to the scalp (causing a red appearance). Some Nioxin products improve the condition and health of the hair and scalp. Some Nioxin products improve the appearance of thinning hair by boosting the volume and strengthening strands. There’s also a new Nioxin product that utilizes the drug Minoxodil, the same drug used in Rogaine, to stimulate follicles into growth phase.

No Nioxin products have ingredients that block or reduce Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormonal byproduct of testosterone that triggers shedding. This difference is what sets Revivogen MD apart. Revivogen MD Scalp Therapy offers a potent, all-natural formula that targets the hormonal cause of hair loss. While it is genetics that determine whether one will or will not go bald (Androgenic Alopecia), it is the hormone DHT that induces thinning. By reducing DHT, hair shedding slows significantly.

Many Nioxin products have formulas that improve the appearance of thinning hair, without necessarily targeting the main issue of hair loss. In that sense, it addresses the effects of hair loss. Revivogen MD’s Bio-Cleansing Shampoo and Thickening Conditioner also address the effects of hair loss, by plumping the hair shaft to produce unequaled volume and adding moisture to thinning hair without weighing it down or making it look greasy. The right shampoo and conditioner can really make a difference on how thin hair looks!

Additionally, those struggling with hair loss must make sure their shampoo does a deep clean. Both Revivogen MD and Nioxin Shampoos clear the scalp of sebum, product buildup and environmental residue, which can clog the follicles. Clogged follicles can’t absorb important topical treatments, like Revivogen MD Scalp Therapy.

However, shampoo and conditioner on their own are unlikely to stop shedding when someone has the genetic condition of male/female pattern baldness. Shampoo is highly diluted, and it is only on the head for a few minutes at most before it goes down the drain. The same goes for conditioner, which mainly just helps hair with moisture and healing hair damage.

A powerful topical is needed, and both Revivogen and Nioxin make popular leave-in hair loss treatments. Besides Nioxin’s recently added Minoxodil-based topical, most of their leave-in treatments are effective, but cosmetic in nature, meaning that they improve the appearance of thinning hair without decreasing shedding. Revivogen MD’s leave-in treatment, Scalp Therapy, delivers clinically-proven ingredients to block DHT and stop hair loss.

Ultimately, Nioxin is effective at boosting the appearance of thinning hair and Revivogen is effective at both boosting the appearance of thinning hair, decreasing sheddinand increasing growth.
